We collect no data
Near Now does not collect any information about you or your device. Not anonymously, not in aggregate, not for our own use. In particular, it does not collect:
- Your IP address
- Your operating system, device type, or any device identifier
- Which screens you open, what you tap, or how long you use the app
- Crash logs or diagnostic data
- Your location or any history of where you have been
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, or microphone input
- Your name, email address, or any other personal detail
There is no analytics SDK, no tracking, no advertising, and no crash reporting in Near Now. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no servers of ours that receive your information, so there is nothing for us to store, sell, share, or lose.
Location
Near Now asks for location access because that is the entire point of the app: it watches for when you arrive near a place you have saved, and alerts you. To do that while the app is closed, iOS may ask for “Always” access.
All of it happens on your device. The arrival alerts are handled by the iOS geofencing system, which monitors the regions you saved and wakes the app when you cross one. Your coordinates, your saved places, and your movement between them are never transmitted to us — we have no server to transmit them to, and no way to see them. Nothing about your location leaves your device except the map requests described below.
You can change or revoke location access at any time in Settings, and delete any saved place inside the app.
Maps and addresses
Near Now uses Apple's own map services to draw the map, let you search for a place, and turn coordinates into a readable street address. Those requests go to Apple Maps and are handled under Apple's privacy policy; Apple designs Maps so that such requests are not associated with your Apple Account. We are not party to them and receive nothing from them.
Apart from Apple's own map and system services, Near Now uses no third-party services or SDKs at all. It does not read your contacts — it uses only Apple's address-formatting utility, which works entirely on-device.
Apple may also provide us with anonymised, aggregate App Store statistics — download counts and the like — if you have opted in to sharing them with developers in your device settings. That is data Apple collects, not something Near Now collects, and it never identifies you.
What stays on your device
Anything you create in Near Now — settings, progress, saved entries — is stored on your device only. If you use iCloud backup or device sync, a copy may live in your own iCloud account, which is under your control and Apple's privacy policy, not ours. We cannot see any of it.
Deleting the app removes the data it kept on your device. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing to request from us, and no data-deletion request to make.
Permissions
Near Now asks for two system permissions: location, described above, and notifications, so it can alert you when you arrive somewhere. iOS asks you before granting either, and you can withdraw both at any time in Settings. Notifications are composed and delivered on your device — there is no push server, so we never send you anything and never see what an alert said.
If you email us
Support is the one place where we do end up with your information: if you write to us, we have your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it only to answer you, we do not add you to any mailing list, and you can ask us to delete the correspondence at any time.
Children
Near Now is not directed to children under 13. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, we collect none from children either.
Security
The strongest privacy protection is not holding data in the first place, which is the approach we have taken. For the support email we do receive, we apply reasonable safeguards to keep it protected.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. If Near Now ever needed to collect something, we would say so here and in the app before it happened.
